Discussing Cybersafety with Kalogera Primary School in Larnaka

Our lab visited Kalogera Primary School on the 5th and 6th of December, 2023, to discuss Online Social Networks, their risks, and minor users. Our lab member, Pantelitsa Leonidou, talked to the 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students about the online risks they may experience and advised them on how to detect, avoid, handle those risks.

Close to 60 students participated in the seminar.

Subsequently, the students learned about cybersafety tools and how they can help them stay safe online. They also learned about the “Cybersafety Family Advice Suite”(CFAS) tools developed by our team.

At the end of the discussion, the students had the chance to participate individually in the user experience evaluation of CFAS and have hands-on experience with the latest technology on cyber safety.

During our visits to the primary school, we also gave a presentation to the parents to spread awareness of online social media threats. We demonstrated the functionalities of the CFAS tools to the parents, and finally, we discussed the security and privacy settings of various platforms!

This activity is funded by the CYberSafety (https://cybersafety.cy/). The CYberSafety project and its objectives, along with information regarding its helpline and hotline 1480, were promoted during our visit.

We want to thank the teachers and the school principal for their help and collaboration in organizing the visit. Special thanks to Mrs. Loukia Louka for her contribution and dedicated time to this event! We especially want to thank our young friends and parents who were enthusiastic and interested in learning the most out of our short cyber safety course!
